This is the official page for the Flying Dutchmen, Hofstra University's Quidditch team.
What is QUIDDITCH?
Yes, Quidditch, the once fictional sport popularized by the Harry Potter series. If you've never witnessed a Quidditch game in person, you may picture it as a bunch of cloak wearing geeks on broomsticks, pretending to fly. This is not the case. Quidditch is a mixture of Rugby, Dodgeball and Wrestling. It is entirely physical – more so than Football, as there is no padding, but tackling is still allowed (and encouraged). It is not for the faint of heart.
When do we PRACTICE/ PLAY GAMES?
We practice every Sunday and Friday from 12 pm until 2pm and 5 pm to 7 pm, respectively. We also have a non-mandatory practice every Wednesday from 8 pm until 10 pm under the lights of the Intramural Fields. We regularly scrimmage other local schools and community teams.
In April 2016, the Flying Dutchmen flew down to Austin, Texas to participate in the 1st annual Consolation Cup. It was a two day tournament that consisted of almost 80 community and University teams from all over the nation.
You don't have to be a Harry Potter fan to try this new and growing sport. All are encouraged and welcomed to try out and play this physically intense, yet wildly enjoyable sport. We hope to see you out on the Quidditch pitch!
